The Connaught has been granted a Silver Shield by Green Tourism for Business - the only hotel in Bournemouth to be awarded Silver!!
The directors and staff of Best Western, the Connaught Hotel recognise that we must operate our business with care and consideration both within our local environment and that of the wider environment. It is our belief that good management together with pro-active, working practices towards the ptotection and enhancement of the environment will help us build a stronger foundation for a more sustainable future.
As employees we carry out our work in a manner that is compatible with our environmental policy.
Our aims and objectives are as follows::
- To use local suppliers wherever possible to promote local and English produce. We also work with these suppliers and producers to minimise CO2 emissions through deliveries and packaging.
To reduce waste through recycling.
To use paper from sustainable resources.
Fair trade tea and coffee are available for all our members and guests.
We use local trades’ people for property maintenance and operation.
We pay all our suppliers promptly and within their own terms of credit.
We work very closely with Bournemouth Council and all statutory authorities to ensure that we operate our business above the minimum standards for Environmental Health and Safety
We have ensured that all parts of the hotel are accessible for mobility impaired guests to include the provision of 2 specially adapted bedrooms
We actively support our local charities and have chosen Macmillan Cancer Support as our Charity for 2009 - please support us whenever you can with whatever you can afford.
We work with local schools and colleges to provide work experience and training.
At Best Western the Connaught Hotel we are very aware of the need to conserve natural resources by ensuring responsible use of energy, water and materials, the consumption of which is continuously monitored whilst striving to provide the quality of service expected by our guests.
We actively promote a programme of low energy lighting which is constantly regulated and monitored that includes the installation of PIR (Passive Infrared Sensors) where appropriate.
We are currently carrying out a feasability study to install a new CHP unit to provide free electricity for the Hotel
Guests are encouraged to assist us where possible to cut back on emissions by the use of public transport. We also work closely with our local transport provider and in conjunction with them we are producing a bespoke timetable which will be offered to all guests.
Our policies are regularly reviewed to ensure that we are compliant with all current legislation.
We welcome your comments on how we may improve our overall performance that will enable us to go on making a valuable contribution at both the local and national levels – please send your email with your suggestions to davidmiller@theconnaught.co.uk or write to him at:
